I recently completed my 12th consecutive Wish A Mile (WAM), 3 day, 300 mile bicycle tour for the Make A Wish Foundation of Michigan on July 27-29th, 2018.
I have always been an exercise enthusiast in various sports including racquetball, running, bicycling, bowling, and most other sports but love bicycling for the low impact on the body, being outside in the fresh air and serenity of nature, how it is somewhat meditative in relaxing my mind, and of course the challenge of pushing my limits to achieve an excellent cardiovascular workout.
All summer long I ride for my enjoyment and physical fitness, but the weekend of the Wish A Mile I ride to raise money to grant wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses which brings hope, happiness, and a little reprieve from the struggles that these kids and their families go through.
Helping others that have health challenges reminds me how precious our health is, and how important it is to maintain our health throughout our lives so that our bodies function optimally.
